Fiorentini, a snack producer based in Italy, has implemented a modern coding solution in collaboration with Markem-Imaje to enhance its data management capabilities. The provider of industrial marking and coding systems delivered an integrated solution consisting of both hardware and a scalable software platform.
Robust coding solution for demanding production environments
Fiorentini is a long-established family business based in Turin. For over 100 years, the market leader for crackers and healthy snacks in Italy has operated under strictly controlled production conditions. To meet high standards for quality and traceability, the company relies on fully automated packaging and coding processes.
Luca Perri, Operations Director at Fiorentini, explained that the company considers itself a modern and forward-thinking organization, which is why it chose a partner capable of delivering an advanced and robust printing and coding solution. According to him, Markem-Imaje was the only supplier in the coding market that could offer an integrated solution, complete with proprietary software, reliable coders, and the industrial knowledge necessary to plan and execute such a project.
Centralized platform for coding data management
The core of Fiorentini’s new coding setup is the "CoLOS" production software. Operating in a high-level environment, it communicates simultaneously with both management and automation systems. This allows real-time transmission of product data to the respective packaging technologies. The system’s flexibility enables various types of coding within one platform from direct printing on product packaging to carton and pallet labelling. This ensures seamless traceability in line with the requirements of international markets.
Efficiency gains through integrated coding solution
The collaboration between Markem-Imaje and Fiorentini has been ongoing for six years. Guido Torriglia, Sales Manager at Markem-Imaje Italy, emphasized their pride in delivering a solution capable of managing a dynamic and highly diverse production data ecosystem within a complex IT environment. Fiorentini employs technologies such as Smartdate thermal transfer printers, 9400 Series continuous inkjet systems, and 2200 Series print-and-apply systems. All components are centrally managed by the "CoLOS" software.
The installed coding solution not only ensures production reliability, but also simplifies processes and improves data handling. These capabilities are essential for meeting the growing demands for transparency, speed, and flexibility in food production.
