With the official groundbreaking ceremony, Weidmüller has begun construction of its new Asian headquarters in Suzhou. The company has been active in China for more than 30 years, and with this new building, it aims to further expand its regional presence. Attendees at the event included André Sombecki, Chief Financial Officer of the Weidmüller Group; Lance Zhao, Executive Vice President for the Asia region; representatives from the Suzhou Industrial Park; and representatives from the business and academic communities.

Largest investment outside Germany

André Sombecki, Chief Financial Officer of the Weidmüller Group and responsible for Asia, explains that the project represented the largest investment outside Germany in the company's history. It would strengthen local value creation and lay the foundation for further growth in one of Weidmüller's most important markets. He added that the investment was a consistent step in the company's strategy to operate closer to its customers worldwide by further localizing development, manufacturing and decision-making. Working together with the local team would enable Weidmüller to increase its speed and flexibility while responding even more effectively to the requirements of customers and partners. According to Sombecki, the new Asian headquarters also underlined the company's long-term commitment to expanding local capabilities and further developing a resilient global manufacturing and development network.

Weidmüller consolidates development, production, and logistics

The new location will bring key business divisions together under one roof. Plans include smart manufacturing, research and development, logistics, engineering, as well as training and customer centers. Together with the existing production site in Suzhou, the new corporate headquarters will support Weidmüller’s regional growth in the future. Lance Zhao, Executive Vice President Asia at Weidmüller, said that the project represented an important extension of the company's "Local for Local" strategy and a significant step towards strengthening its customer-centric capabilities. By establishing a highly intelligent and digitalized operations center, Weidmüller aims to create a local ecosystem that enables faster response times, more reliable supply chains and forward-looking technologies.

Weidmüller increases production capacity in China

In the first phase of expansion, the new site will cover approximately 40,000 square meters. Upon completion, Weidmüller’s production capacity in Suzhou is expected to more than triple. At the same time, the product portfolio of the “Qilin” brand—developed specifically for the Asian market—will be expanded. These products will be manufactured at the new site in the future. With this expansion, Weidmüller aims to strengthen regional value creation. This will allow the company to serve customers in Asia more quickly and flexibly. The new headquarters is also intended to support the digital transformation of industry in the region. In this way, the company aims to enhance its competitiveness in the long term.
