Chemspec Europe 2023 reports record exhibition space and strong visitor growth

The 36th International Exhibition for Fine and Speciality Chemicals concluded last week at the Messe Basel exhibition centre in Switzerland. The largest edition of Chemspec Europe in size so far, the event welcomed 353 exhibitors from 24 countries, presenting their innovative substances and bespoke solutions on a record net exhibition space of more than 6,670 squaremeters. Increasing visitor numbers by 32 percent compared to last year’s edition, the show attracted a total of 4,152 trade visitors from 62 countries. With visitor attendance matching the 2019 results, Chemspec Europe again confirmed its position in the sector by hitting pre-pandemic levels on event size and attendee numbers.

7,000 industry experts attend Chemspec Europe 2023

Chemspec Europe 2023 brought together around 7,000 industry experts from around the world, similar in number to the 34th edition of the show before Corona. Visitors came from a total of 62 countries, mainly from Germany and Switzerland, followed by Italy, the UK, France and India. Most visitors came from the fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals sectors. At the fair, a total of 353 exhibitors presented the entire spectrum of fine and speciality chemicals for a wide range of applications and industries. The exhibitors came from 24 countries. The main European exhibiting countries were Germany, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Belgium. The non-European exhibitors came mainly from China, India and the USA.

Market insights through comprehensive conference programme

A total of 43 conference sessions took place at Chemspec Europe 2023, providing insight into the current challenges and opportunities in the various fine and specialty chemical sectors. The start-up presentations, organised in collaboration with BCNP Consultants, showcased the perspectives of ten emerging start-ups on the first day in the "Agrochemical Lecture Theatre", presenting ideas and approaches to carbon capture and utilisation, digitalisation and green chemistry. The conference programme included a two-day symposium sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry to discuss supply chain solutions, market strategies and industry developments. In the "Pharma Lecture Theatre", presentations provided insights into the pharmaceutical industry landscape, including the Intermediates for Pharma and Agro presentation by Weylchem International and the "Pharma Outsourcing Best Practices Panel", moderated by Marianne Späne of Siegfried. In the regulatory services lecture hall, sessions on Reach and international regulations were offered, including the Latest Updates of Chemical Regulations in China session by Cirs - Chemical Inspection & Regulation Service.

High rebooking rate for Chemspec Europe 2024

The next and thus 37th edition of Chemspec Europe will take place from 19 to 20 June 2024 at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre. In Basel, a large number of exhibitors have already confirmed their participation in Chemspec Europe 2024. Accordingly, 80 per cent of the total stand area for the coming edition has already been reserved.
