Evonik has inaugurated a world-scale production facility on Jurong Island in Singapore. With this investment, the Group has set another milestone in its global catalyst strategy. The state-of-the-art factory is designed to strengthen supply security in Asia and enable a rapid response to the growing demand for alcoholates in key industries.
Evonik invested a mid-double-digit million Euro amount in the new facility. Construction was announced in May 2023 and has now been completed in less than three years, exactly on schedule and within budget. The annual capacity is 100,000 tons, which will enable Evonik to lay the foundation for a reliable and efficient supply to Asian customers.
Focus on sustainability
The production facility was designed in accordance with strict environmental and safety standards. It enables net-zero emissions in Scope 1 and 2. The plant thus makes a direct contribution to Evonik's sustainability goals. Its strategic location in Southeast Asia shortens delivery routes and reduces CO2 emissions in logistics.
Evonik focuses on customer proximity in Asia
Lauren Kjeldsen, Chief Operating Officer Custom Solutions, explains: “This facility is more than just an expansion. It’s a statement of our long-term commitment to Asia. By producing closer to our customers, we enhance supply security and agility, while also contributing to Singapore’s vision for a sustainable chemical industry.”
Strategic role in Evonik's portfolio
The new production facility is anchored in the Custom Solutions segment, which Evonik has redefined as part of its transformation process. Custom Solutions comprises tailor-made, science-based offerings that meet changing customer needs. The investment in Singapore supports the Group's positioning as a provider of sustainable high-performance chemicals with a focus on bio-based solutions, energy transition, and the circular economy.
Evonik with global network for alcoholates
With the opening in Singapore, Evonik is completing its global production network for alcoholates. In addition to sites in Germany, the US, and Argentina, this creates a globally coordinated supply system. This enables closer integration of local production with international supply chains, increasing speed and precision in customer deliveries.
Applications of alcoholates
Alcoholates are used in particular in the production of sustainable biodiesel. They improve the process yield in the conversion of vegetable oils, used cooking oils, or other fatty waste materials. In addition, they have a wide range of applications in the synthesis of active ingredients and fine chemicals for the life sciences industry. The new plant thus contributes not only to the energy and mobility transition, but also to the development of modern medicines and new chemical processes.
