Mitsubishi Electric has entered into a strategic partnership with European gear manufacturer Tramec to improve the performance of gearboxes. The aim of the collaboration is to jointly develop complete gear motor drive systems based on the highly efficient EM-A series synchronous motors. The agreement, signed in May 2025, covers both technical development and the supply of high-performance gear units for the European market. The integration of high-performance Tramec gear units into Mitsubishi Electric's “IE5+” motors will create a range of products specifically designed to meet the energy efficiency and sustainability requirements of industrial applications.

Complete solutions from a single source for the drive sector

By expanding the partnership, Mitsubishi Electric is strengthening its position as a provider of integrated solutions for drive technology. The new gearmotor combinations make it possible to provide automation, mechanics, and mechatronics from a single source. The offering is aimed at customers who value high-quality, efficient, and robust systems that simplify machine architecture and reduce operating costs.

Proximity to production in Europe strengthens Mitsubishi Electric

A key advantage of the cooperation is its proximity to the European production and supply structure. Tramec has its own development and manufacturing facilities in Italy. This enables flexible, responsive collaboration and reduces dependence on global supply chains.

Mitsubishi Electric addresses net-zero challenges with “IE5+” solutions

Electric motors account for around 70 percent of global industrial power consumption. According to the latest Manufacturing Momentum Report 2025, forty percent of manufacturers see achieving net zero as a priority. Against this backdrop, the new partnership makes a concrete contribution to the implementation of sustainable manufacturing strategies through resource-saving, highly efficient drive solutions.

Advantages for OEMs and operators through integrated systems

The combination of “EM-A” synchronous motors and Tramec gearboxes offers original equipment manufacturers stable speed control, even under changing load conditions, improved energy efficiency, and simplified machine design thanks to sensorless positioning. Operators benefit from lower maintenance costs, reduced operating costs, and higher reliability throughout the entire life cycle of the system.
