With the new firmware version 7, R. Stahl is expanding the functionality of its Remote HMI industrial thin client solution to include IP camera support for process monitoring. This integration enables IP cameras to be directly integrated into the user interface, thereby expanding the functionality of HMI systems in the process industry.
IP cameras as digital sensors in process monitoring
In many industrial applications, IP cameras complement classic sensors. Typical areas of application include leak control, monitoring of pumps, valves, or foam formation, and level control in containers. PTZ dome cameras in particular offer a quick overview of various plant components thanks to their pan, tilt, and zoom functions.
ONVIF-based camera integration without additional software
Remote HMI V7 supports the ONVIF standard, which means that up to 99 percent of all common IP cameras from different manufacturers can be integrated directly. Setup is intuitive. Once the camera has been detected, its image can be integrated into the HMI interface as a movable window. This allows operators to flexibly position relevant image areas without losing sight of other process data.
Security-related applications with IP camera support
The camera connection is part of the Remote HMI Pro license and can be configured both directly on the device and centrally via the Remote Device Manager. The combination of robust control devices from R. Stahl and IP camera integration offers a high level of safety, especially in potentially explosive areas (Zone 1/2). Real-time visual control increases transparency and efficiency in operation.
R. Stahl is following the guiding principle of “Secure - Simple - Reliable” in the further development of its “Remote HMI” solution. The new IP camera function supports this approach with a standardized interface, simple operation, and high compatibility. This makes visual process monitoring an integral part of modern HMI systems.
