Chemicals company BASF is strengthening its global digital strategy with a new location in Hyderabad, India. With the planned digital hub, the company is expanding its existing network of digital service centers. Additionelly, it is pursuing its goal of providing services worldwide more quickly, in a more standardized manner, and more cost-efficiently.

Digital hub complements existing BASF infrastructure

The new location complements the existing digital hubs in Ludwigshafen, Madrid, and Kuala Lumpur. BASF offers central digital services for business units worldwide from these units. In the future, Hyderabad will contribute to relieving the existing hubs as a competitive location and will tap into synergies in service provision.

Hyderabad is considered an established technology location with good infrastructure, a high potential of skilled workers and competitive conditions. “With this next step in value creation in BASF’s back-end organization, we ensure digital service delivery on competitive terms,” emphasizes Dr. Dirk Elvermann, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Digital Officer, BASF SE. “Hyderabad offers all the attributes of a state-of-the-art Digital Hub with global reach. Seamless cooperation between the new Digital Hub in India and our existing global Digital Hubs, and excellent service delivery to our businesses, are the top priorities.”

Focus on standardizing digital processes

A central component of the digital strategy is the standardization of the digital portfolio. The aim is to reduce the complexity of the IT landscape and focus on applications that directly contribute to value creation in the core businesses. The digital division will be structurally adjusted to leverage efficiency potential in the long term.

As part of the restructuring, BASF plans to significantly reduce its global workforce in the Digital Services division. This also affects jobs at the Ludwigshafen site. In addition, the number of locations where employees work in the digital sector will be reduced. According to the company, the implementation will be carried out in a socially responsible manner and in accordance with applicable co-determination regulations.

New BASF company scheduled to start operations in 2026

The new company, BASF Digital Solutions Private Limited, will commence operations in the near future. Recruitment of the first teams is already underway. Dietrich Spandau, President Global Digital Services, sees the new location as a long-term growth-oriented project: The goal is to establish a modern workplace for high-performing, globally active teams.

Focus on digital services for the chemical industry

With the expansion of its digital infrastructure in India, BASF is responding to the increasing demands for efficiency and speed in the chemical industry. The digital hub is intended to contribute to supporting central business processes and making new digital developments available across all locations.
