Packaging specialist Coveris invests an additional one million British pounds in its Linerless Labelling Centre of Excellence in Spalding, UK. This brings the total volume of its ongoing investment programme, launched in late 2022, to GBP 2.5 million. The aim is to enhance technical capabilities in linerless labelling, open up new applications and strengthen its market presence.
Increased capacity for the food industry
Coveris operates the UK’s only dedicated linerless label production facility in Spalding, manufacturing over one billion labels annually for the UK and European FMCG markets. With the commissioning of a new flexographic printing press in June 2025, Coveris increases production capacity to meet growing demand. The company focuses on food industry segments such as ready meals and food-to-go.
Sustainable technology for paper and film labels
The new ten-colour MPS press handles both paper and filmic substrates. It features E-Sleeve technology for enhanced registration accuracy, reduced waste and shorter setup times. Additional features include 100 percent web inspection for quality assurance and cold foil embellishment for high-impact decorative finishes. The new equipment supports a broad range of label formats, including Slidewrap, C-Wrap, envelope, punnet labels and contour-cut versions for skinpack applications. Coveris thus addresses growing demand for versatile, high-quality and sustainable labelling solutions.
Coveris sets new standards in linerless labelling
Linerless labels eliminate the need for carrier backing paper, offering a resource-efficient alternative to traditional self-adhesive labels. They enable up to 40 percent more labels per roll, less waste and fewer machine changeovers. Premium formats such as Slidewrap and envelope labels also provide a downgauged alternative to carton sleeves, combining shelf impact with sustainability.
