Industrial automation requires solutions that are easy to integrate and support operational efficiency. One example of this is Murrelektronik's MVK Fusion fieldbus modules. These hybrid modules combine three central functions of installation technology: standard digital sensors and actuators, safety-related sensors and actuators, and IO-Link. This 3-in-1 solution reduces complexity, simplifies system architecture, and saves space in the control cabinet and during installation. Plant designers therefore need fewer fieldbus modules per unit, in many cases just one. The joint processing of standard and safety data in a single safety module makes the system architecture clearer and significantly reduces installation costs.

Safety module for Ethernet/IP applications

The MVK Fusion CIP Safety is the first safety module available for Ethernet/IP applications. It is based on the Common Industrial Protocol Safety, or CIP Safety for short, which is certified to SIL3 according to IEC 61508. This protocol extends the widely used CIP with safety-related functions. The advantage is that safety functions can be integrated directly into existing automation systems. Additional safety networks are not required.

Simplified configuration and flexible connections

The new modules use compact M12 Power L-coded connectors that offer high current carrying capacity. Thanks to simple parameterization in the control manufacturer's engineering tool, safety-related sensors and actuators can be quickly configured without special additional software. The Safety Network Number (SNN) can also be transferred directly. The safe output port “X3” increases flexibility: it can be used as two PP outputs, one PM output, or in combination as PPM. In addition, channel granularity ensures that each port can be specifically adapted to the respective requirement.

Safety module in robust design for field use

The new safety module is designed for installation in close proximity to the process. With a fully encapsulated metal housing, IP67 protection, and a temperature range from minus 30 to plus 60 degrees Celsius, it can withstand harsh industrial conditions. Extensive diagnostic functions monitor each channel for errors such as overload, short circuit, or cable break and enable rapid error analysis. The MVK Fusion CIP Safety thus complements Murrelektronik's existing Ethernet/IP portfolio, which also includes IO-Link master modules and network switches.
