Emerson has introduced the "PACSystems RX3i CPS400" safety controller, which is designed to implement Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2) strategies in areas such as infrastructure, fire and gas monitoring, burner management systems, and other emergency shutdown systems. The compact solution offers impressive safety features and a scalable architecture with up to 2,000 available I/O points. This makes the controller particularly suitable for complex projects with changing requirements.

Safety controller with powerful architecture for critical applications

With a memory capacity of 64 megabytes and a scalable digital infrastructure, the controller covers a wide range of business-critical applications. The controller supports industrial protocols such as OPC UA, Ethernet Global Data (EGD), Modbus TCP, and others such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and MQTT, enabling efficient implementation of peer-to-peer and host connections.

Protection through secure-by-design

The secure-by-design architecture includes Secure Boot and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) for high data integrity and protection against potential threats. Security-certified function blocks and ready-made templates also facilitate overall system certification in accordance with IEC 61511.

Flexible configuration with PAC Machine Edition safety controller

Developers configure the controller using the familiar PAC Machine Edition development environment, which is also used for PLCs, HMIs, and other automation components. This uniform tool chain not only simplifies integration, but also speeds up commissioning and increases operational efficiency.

Redundancy and communication for high availability

The "RX3i CPS400" is available in simplex or redundant configurations. Safety data messages are processed using duplex communication based on the black channel principle on an EGD basis. This enables a standardized connection to the PACSystems VersaMax SafetyNet I/O system.

Integrated safety controller facilitates system development

Daniel Smith, Senior Product Manager for Discrete Automation at Emerson, explains, that with the addition of the "PACSystems RX3i CPS400" safety controller to the company’s extensive portfolio of safety products, Emerson continues to provide its customers with the tools they need to develop compliant safety systems that can be easily integrated into complex automation solutions.
