The expansion of photovoltaic, wind power, and power distribution networks places high demands on the infrastructure components used. In addition to cables, connectors, and support systems, cable ties are increasingly coming into focus. They are installed in large quantities and are exposed to UV radiation, moisture, temperature fluctuations, and chemical influences over many years. Panduit offers durable cable tie solutions for outdoor and energy applications to meet these requirements. These include the “Dura Ty” cable ties made of acetal, as well as solutions made of UV-resistant Nylon 612. Both product families are designed for long-term use in energy and solar projects and are backed by a 20-year manufacturer’s warranty for specific applications.

Acetal cable ties for demanding outdoor applications

The patented “Dura Ty” were developed specifically for applications in energy and telecommunications infrastructure. The acetal material used offers high resistance to UV radiation, weathering, and mechanical stress. A key design feature is the double stainless steel locking tabs. According to the manufacturer, these ensure a tensile strength of 1,112 Newtons. The robust head design is also intended to enable reliable installation even under difficult conditions. Heavy-duty and extra-heavy-duty versions are available for different load requirements. The extra-heavy-duty variants comply with the Telcordia guideline TR TSY 000789.

Nylon 612 extends the service life of cable ties

In addition, Panduit offers cable ties made of Nylon 612. These are used in particular where chemical influences occur in addition to UV exposure. Compared to classic Nylon 6.6, Nylon 612 absorbs significantly less moisture. According to the manufacturer, moisture absorption within 24 hours is around 0.3 percent instead of 1.2 percent. As a result, the mechanical properties remain stable over the long term. The expected service life under UV exposure is up to 20 years, according to the company, which is significantly longer than the typical seven to nine years of conventional Nylon 6.6 cable ties.

Cable management for photovoltaics and energy infrastructure

The Nylon 612 cable ties are also resistant to salts, acid rain, and zinc-containing residues. Such stresses typically occur on galvanized mounting systems in photovoltaic installations. This makes the cable ties particularly suitable for ground-mounted PV systems, rooftop systems, wind power installations, as well as energy and utility infrastructures with long planned operating times.

Durable cable ties reduce maintenance costs

In solar and energy projects, these cable management solutions are often used in very large quantities. Material failures therefore quickly lead to increased maintenance costs, additional material expenses, and logistical challenges. Added to this are potential system downtime as well as additional costs for retrofitting and disposal. Against this backdrop, the long-term stability of the components used is becoming increasingly important. With its “Dura Ty” cable ties made of acetal and those made of Nylon 612, the manufacturer is positioning its solutions for durable cable management in outdoor and energy applications.
