Symrise has officially launched the second construction phase of its new logistics center in Holzminden with a groundbreaking ceremony. By investing around 25 million euros, the company is expanding its logistics capacities and strengthening its headquarters as a central hub within its global logistics network. The project forms part of the “Vision 2035” infrastructure program, through which Symrise is making long-term investments in the Holzminden site.

Symrise expands logistics capacities at its headquarters

The second construction phase of the logistics center complements the existing infrastructure “in der Bülte” and is intended to support the company’s strategic focus on growth, operational excellence, and modern logistics solutions. Plans include a fully automated high-bay warehouse with around 10,000 storage locations and dimensions of approximately 98 meters in length, 22 meters in width, and 24 meters in height, as well as a two-story connecting building measuring around 52 meters in length. Through the expansion, Symrise aims to manage material and goods flows more efficiently and further improve the performance of its global supply chains. At the same time, the centralized logistics structure is expected to reduce traffic and infrastructure pressure within the city of Holzminden.

Automation and digitalization shape logistics construction project

The new logistics center will operate with fully automated and digitalized processes. This is intended to create greater transparency in logistics operations and improve supply chain efficiency. Dr. Jean-Yves Parisot, CEO of Symrise, explains that the site would become far more than just a logistics center over the coming years. According to him, the investment supports both the future of the company’s headquarters in Holzminden and the strengthening of its global footprint. He further stated that the highly automated and digitalized logistics hub reflects Symrise’s ambition to consistently focus on performance. The digitalization of processes is also intended to support the company-wide transformation toward “ONE Symrise” and enable more flexible global customer supply structures.

Logistics center strengthens Symrise supply chains

The new facility will be operated by Symotion, Symrise’s wholly owned logistics service provider. Through the expansion, the company intends to improve efficiency throughout its value chain and further expand modern just-in-time delivery processes. Jens Bädje, Managing Director of Symotion, adds that the logistics center would create a high-performance hub for material flows and elevate logistics processes to a new level. He added that optimized just-in-time deliveries aligned precisely with production processes and customer requirements would further improve operational workflows.

Infrastructure program designed to strengthen Holzminden site long term

Symrise plans to complete the second construction phase by March 2028. The project is considered a key component of the company’s long-term site strategy. With the expansion, Symrise is investing not only in additional logistics capacities, but also in the future viability of its headquarters in Holzminden. The aim is to adapt the infrastructure to future requirements arising from global supply chains and increasingly digitalized production processes.
