Packaging automation is increasingly becoming a key factor for efficiency, flexibility, and quality in industry. At Interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, Omron will be exhibiting as part of the Packaging Valley consortium to demonstrate how integrated automation technologies can be combined into end-to-end system solutions. The industry demands solutions that can adapt to changing requirements while ensuring stable processes.

Stéphane Chômienne, Regional Sales Director for the Central Region at Omron Industrial Automation Europe, explains, that the company demonstrates at Interpack, what modern packaging automation should look like: user-friendly, easily scalable, and built to last. The goal is to provide machine builders and users with solutions that can be flexibly adapted and operated over the long term.

Modular Concepts for Scalable Packaging Automation

A key focus is on modular machine concepts and flexible line structures. These enable systems to be adapted to changing production requirements. One example is the combination of a delta robot and a linear axis. It demonstrates how machine functions can be configured via software. This reduces engineering effort and changeover times while maintaining a high degree of flexibility.

Reliable detection of different materials is crucial for reliable packaging automation. Omron presents sensor technologies that deliver stable results even with reflective, transparent, or dark objects. In conjunction with IO-Link communication, product changeovers and maintenance processes can be simplified. At the same time, detection performance remains constant, contributing to the stability of the entire system.

Motion Control and Safety in a Single Architecture

Another focus is on the integration of motion control and functional safety. Synchronized multi-axis control via Ethercat enables precise motion sequences. By integrating safety functions via FSoE, motion and safety can be implemented within a single system. Functions such as safe torque shutdown or safe speed monitoring can be implemented without adding system complexity.

Vision processing expands packaging automation

Vision processing solutions are increasingly taking on tasks in quality inspection and traceability. Omron is showcasing systems for inspecting labels and codes as well as for inspecting continuous products. For regulated sectors such as the pharmaceutical industry, solutions are being presented that combine inspection and handling. These include checks for completeness, correct type, and cleanliness. The goal is to reduce manual intervention and support consistent quality standards.

Packaging automation as part of networked production lines

In addition to its own booth, Omron technologies are also integrated into systems from other exhibitors. This illustrates how solutions can be integrated into existing packaging and processing lines. This underscores that packaging automation is increasingly viewed as part of networked production environments where different technologies work together seamlessly.
